My First Solo Flight (In a Simulator)
Today was a momentous occasion - my first completely solo flight without any assistance! Well, in Microsoft Flight Simulator, but still counts, right? I chose the Cessna 172 for this adventure, and let me tell you, taking off from runway 27 at KSEA was both thrilling and terrifying.
The pre-flight checklist alone took me about 20 minutes. Fuel? Check. Flaps? Check. Confidence? Questionable. But I was determined to make this work. As I advanced the throttle and felt the aircraft start to move, my heart was racing faster than the propeller.
The takeoff was surprisingly smooth. I managed to maintain centerline (mostly), rotated at the right speed, and climbed out without incident. The real challenge came when it was time to land. Let's just say my first three approaches were more like controlled crashes than actual landings.
But on the fourth attempt, something clicked. I nailed the approach speed, maintained the glideslope, and greased the landing. The satisfaction I felt was incredible. Sure, it's just a simulator, but the fundamentals are real, and the learning is genuine.
This experience taught me that aviation, whether real or simulated, requires patience, practice, and persistence. And maybe a little bit of controlled panic.
